BASIL (Under Evaluation)

UNDER EVALUATION.

Basil is a BIG juicy Sagittarius (12/19) lover boy who loves daily walks, new raw diet and open mouth wet slobber kisses (if you have ever kissed a baby, you know). He will be 6 in December and is good with ALL animals showing ZERO aggression to cats and dogs. He came in battling a horrible double rod infection in both ears, a bad UTI and eye infection, and some skin issues we’re watching him heal from.

Basil is not a morning dog, might completely sleep through a break in and has a snore that can set a sound warning off on an Apple Watch (can confirm). If you have ever tried to get a 200 lbs mastiff to move quickly when they’re not feeling it, it’s comical. Basils love language is cheese. He will LEAP to action to do anything you ask for cheese. A charcuterie board is on his list to Santa.

Basil is a good boy who is happy to please but came into rescue not having been taught boundaries or manners. Basil was listed a HUMPER, although we have never seen or experienced that but have been in a room with vet techs who have. He is overly excited meeting new people or being in new places and that excitement can come out wrong. TRICK: When meeting new people Basil needs to be put into a sit and given direction/command to give that excited energy a place. We are working on desensitizing meeting new people and new places to learn how to deal with excited feelings and what is expected. He’s also learning more manners and boundaries in other areas at home, like - we wait for other dogs to finish and walk away before we invite ourselves in their bowl. We continue to see progress everyday.
