Gator - 2.5 YEAR OLD Male

Hi, I'm apricot in color, up to date on vaccines, neutered and Heartworm Negative.

Gator’s owner went into Hospice Care and MRF was contacted. Our MRF Volunteer Elaine did the evaluation and decided to take him home to foster. Neighbors told her that he spent the first year of his life with a lady who kept him crated much of the time because she worked. His second year he lived with a man who became very ill who left him alone in the yard for days.

When we picked him up he had no fur on his back from his shoulders to half his tail. He had bad ear infections and was not neutered. After almost 3 months of veterinary treatment and TLC he is now a healthy, happy mastiff..

He is curious about cats but does not chase or bother them. He is great at the vet, no muzzle needed. He is shy with new people and somewhat wary of them but has not shown any aggression towards people.

He will walk on a leash on my property (2 acres) but not go further than my neighbor's front door. I can walk him loose on the property. He will come when called. He knows come, house (go to), sit, down, and paw, other paw.. He is fine with the female Rottie but her male Rottie is dominant..

Gator tries to play bow.. but she does not want to put them together…
He is not food or toy aggressive; he is goofy and he is happy.. He does chase the chickens.
He is still very timid due to his lack of socialization and is quite the Velcro dog! Being just over 2 years old he still acts like a great big puppy.

He would do best in a quiet home with no small children ..10years and over would be best because of his size and clumsiness.

He is a rescue, young and not lots of socialization. Gator and his adopter would benefit from continued training and socialization. He needs an adopter that wants to work with him to make him that special companion.  This is not a dog for a first time big dog owner.
